Juneau Families is brought to you by Partnerships for Families & Children (PFC) A Best Beginnings Partnership. PFC is a group of 16 non-profit and state agencies who work together to promote a seamless web of support for young children and their families. Our collaborative efforts have been successful in initiating the parent and community resources you will find at this website.
Partnerships for Families and Children work collaboratively to promote shared broad-based communication and support for young children and their families.
Our vision is that all families with young children have access to community resources that support their health, growth and development.
Starting in 1988 five core agencies, serving families and young children, identified unmet community needs which led them to research and apply for the Healthy Families program. With the addition of Even Start and Healthy Families programs in 1995, the “Home Visiting Managers Group” began meeting monthly. Quarterly inter-agency training began, and the Teen Family Center concept was developed by the group. In 1999, The Juneau Transition Team formed, which included many of the same team members.
Past Projects: Blanket of Wellness
With increased collaboration between different groups serving families and young children, Legislative open houses were held, the Family Pages Resource Guide was completed, and several collaborative grants were written, including the 0-5 Continuity Grant, Alaska Children’s Trust, and The Blanket of Wellness mental health consultant system.
Fueled by these successful coordination projects members of the Home Visiting Managers Group and the Juneau Transition Team shared the costs of a facilitator for a planning retreat in the spring of 2002. The forward momentum continued over the summer with development of a new name, vision statement, and outreach to include additional partners and community representatives. Members of the new group shared costs to develop a website and common parent and staff training event calendar.
Interested community members, new and established partners are welcome to attend the first Wednesday of every month. We meet from 12-1:30 at AEYC, which is located on the second floor North of the Juneau Empire building at 3100 Channel Drive, suite 215. Each representative is asked to facilitate one meeting per year. In order to move forward most effectively with collaborative projects, we encourage each participating group to send the same representative each month. If you or your agency is interested in becoming a member please contact AEYC at 907-789-1235, 1-888-785-1235, or firstname.lastname@example.org.
